FAQs
Q. WHAT IS A SPLIT SYSTEM AIR CONDITIONER?
A. A split system air conditioner consists of two main components: A Condenser that sits outside of the building that creates air conditioning with refrigerant and an Evaporator that expels the cooled or heated air into the area of choice. Ex. Bedroom, living room, office, etc. Split systems or mini splits get there name by the condenser being separate from the evaporator.
Q. HOW DO I INSTALL A SPLIT SYSTEM?
A. Split systems are connected with refrigerant lines called "line sets" and 12 to 14 gauge electrical wiring. With a Wall Mounted or Ceiling/Floor unit; a 3" hole is needed behind the evaporator to run the lines set and wiring between the two units, and condensation tubing to expel any water created during dehumidification. The distance between the Evaporator and Condenser can be up to 100 feet apart. With added distance a longer and thicker line set is needed. Split systems are very easy to install but remember, with the exception of self-contained Through Wall (Window) and PTAC units, by law any air conditioning refrigerant unit needs to be installed by a licensed contractor. Here is a link to our training guide: High Wall Training Guide.
Q. HOW DO I FIND A LICENSED CONTRACTOR?
A. The best way to find a certified licensed contractor is to look up Air Conditioning-Contractors.
Q. CAN I USE MY HEAT PUMP SPLIT SYSTEM IN THE WINTER?
A. Split systems can only be operated above freezing temperatures. A heat pump unit creates heat but will not operate below freezing temperatures. A unit with supplemental electric heat is needed for heat below freezing temperatures. Ex. Model Number: RAC020A6ER. A low ambient kit can be added to operate at temperatures below freezing in the air conditioning mode only. Low ambient kits slow down the fan so air conditioning can be created at temperatures as low as 0 degrees Fahrenheit. This is ideal for computer server rooms and areas that require air conditioning year round. Many customers have purchased a crank case heater to wrap around the condenser's compressor for continued operation in colder temperatures.
Q. MY UNIT SAYS THAT THE CONDENSER COMES PRECHARGED; DOES THIS MEAN I DON'T HAVE TO ADD OR SUBTRACT REFRIGERANT?
A. Many condensers come precharged. Search the "Overview Specifications" for the footage of precharge. With any install some refrigerant will need to be added or subtracted for proper performance. Refrigerant gauges are connected to find the optimum refrigerant pressure for each air conditioning unit.
Q. HOW DO I PROPERLY SIZE A DUCTLESS SPLIT SYSTEM?
A. There are charts above the products that give a good average of size needed with reference to Btu.s. These averages are for parts of the United States that do not have extreme ambient temperatures and the area to be cooled doesn't contain variables such as large south facing windows and high ceilings. In these cases it is wise to pick at least one size larger. For a good average rule of thumb; take the total Btu.s a system produces and divide it by the following numbers:
20 Btu's for well insulated buildings
25 Btu's for average insulated buildings
30 Btu's for poorly insulated buildings
Example: 12,000 Btu system services an area of of 600 square feet for a well insulated building.
Q. HOW NOISY ARE SPLIT SYSTEM UNITS?
A. Split system units on average create approximately 32 to 40 decibels of sound. By definition anything 10 to 32 decibels of sound is related to a whisper quiet library.
Q. WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF HAVING AN INVERTER COMPRESSOR?
A. An inverter compressor is the key to obtaining higher SEER and efficiency ratings. Inverter compressors negate a hard start-up when air conditioning is needed. Standard rotary and scroll compressor either operate on or off, but inverter compressors only use enough power to maintain the desired temperature. Inverter compressors have a longer lifespan and are less expensive to operate.
Q. DOES CLEARANCE AC SHIP TO OTHER COUNTRIES BESIDES THE UNITED STATES?
A. No. Currently Clearance AC only ships within the United States.
Q. WHAT IS THE RETURN POLICY FOR CLEARANCE AC?
A. Clearance AC will accept returns for within 14 days of the product delivery date. Return shipping costs are covered by the customer. A 20% restocking fee will be charged to the customers credit card. Remaining balance will be refunded the day the equipment is returned to the Clearance AC warehouse. All products must remain in new condition. It is up to the customer to check for product damage at the time of arrival before signing the shippers paperwork. Shipping companies will not accept damage charges after the order is delivered and signed.
